“Orphan Ellie” is a sweet story about a day in the life of orphaned elephants living at a rescue until they are able to return to the wild. This endearing story is a sweet and appropriate introduction for younger children (4 to 8 years old) about the plight of African elephants, who are facing a threat of extinction, primarily due to poaching for their ivory tusks.
Written and illustrated by author/artist Carrie Lench, who first became inspired by the work of the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust when she saw the surrogate mom, clad-in-plaid elephant keepers and orphan elephants in a nature magazine some 35 years ago. Carrie hopes that this book will also inspire your child to have a deep love and appreciation for elephants, and through your purchase you are contributing to the life-saving efforts of these majestic creatures. A portion of proceeds from every purchase donated to DSWT for their on-going work in elephant rescues, conservation, and anti-poaching efforts.
